San Antonio Municipal Court

Texas Online Defensive Driving Course

If you have recently received a parking ticket or traffic ticket from San Antonio Municipal Court,  you should know your options for dismissing the ticket. By dismissing a traffic ticket from San Antonio Municipal Court, you will avoid negative marks from appearing on your Texas driving record. There are a few options and San Antonio Municipal Court has been known to work with citizens in reducing fines and allowing driver safety course options.

Received a Parking Ticket

San Antonio Municipal Court will not grant eligibility for a driver safety course to dismiss a parking ticket. The court does however provide you with three different options; pay fine, no contest or you could take no action. When you pay the fine, the offense will not appear on your driving record. If you contest the citation, you must appear in court in person and your options will include reduced fees, completing a non-owner affidavit, or request for court hearing which in turn will find you liable or not liable. The third option mentioned, no action. When no action is taken, San Antonio Municipal Court considers this an admission of liability and fines will be assessed. Residents and visitors of San Antonio should note that three parking violations in one calendar year could subject your vehicle to impound.

Received a Traffic Ticket

As with parking tickets, San Antonio Municipal Court gives drivers three options in handling a traffic ticket; pay the fine, appear in court or before a judge, or take no action.

  1. Pay the traffic ticket fine – When you decide to pay the fine for your traffic ticket in San Antonio, you enter a plea of nolo contendere, you waive your right to a jury trial and are found guilty. By simply paying your fine, the ticket turns into a conviction and will be reflected as such on your driving record.
  2. Appear in person before a judge within the San Antonio Municipal Court system – To appear in court you should be prepared to plea no contest/guilty or not guilty. When you plea no contest/guilty the court has the authority to grant eligibility for a driver safety course to dismiss the ticket or reduce fines. When you enter a plea of not guilty there is a jury hearing where you can either be acquitted of all charges or be found guilty.
  3. No Action from you – Failure to take action for a traffic citation will result in the court notifying DPS that you are not eligible to renew your driver’s license and a warrant will be issued for your arrest.

Your best action when you have received a traffic ticket is to plea no contest/guilty and request for a driver safety course. This is the only option to avoid paying outrageous fines, having a warrant issued for your arrest, and to avoid additional points on your driving record that will have a negative impact on your driving record for years down the road. Taking a driver safety course is simple and only takes a few hours.

San Antonio Municipal Court does allow you a few options when you receive a parking or traffic citation. Choose which option is best for you, but remember, taking a driver safety course is most likely going to be your best option.
