Fort Worth Municipal Court

Fort Worth Municipal Court offers drivers several options to handle a traffic violation received within the city. As traffic and construction are on a continuous growth steak in Fort Worth, police are out and about handing tickets to violators. Traffic violations are also on the rise and lucky for some, Fort Worth Municipal Court allows drivers to complete a defensive driving course to dismiss a ticket.

Who is Eligible for Defensive Driving?

Fort Worth Municipal Court requires drivers to who are interested in completing an online defensive driving course to plea “no contest” or guilty to the citation. By entering a plea of no contest drivers are not admitting guilt, however Fort Worth Municipal Court will treat the plea just as they would a guilty plea.

After a driver enters their plea, they will have to meet certain criteria prior to the court granting eligibility for a driver safety course. Some of these requirements are as follows:

  • Cannot have completed a driver safety course to dismiss a citation within the past 12 months.
  • If cited for speeding, the cited speed cannot be more than 24 mph.
  • Must be 17 years of age on the date the citation was received (sometimes this can be negotiable, but you are encouraged to talk to the judge if under 17 years of age.)
  • Driver cannot be cited in a construction zone when workers are present or cited for passing a school bus

Like all courts in Texas, Fort Worth Municipal Court will require drivers to present a valid driver’s license (does not have to be a valid Texas driver’s license) and proof of financial responsibility also known as auto insurance.

Once a driver has entered their plea and met the above criteria, they can then pay the court fee of $110 and officially request an online defensive driving course.

How to Take an Online Defensive Driving Course?

Defensive Driving Texas is the TEA approved online defensive driving course for Fort Worth Municipal Court. They have been in business over 20 years dismissing tickets all over Texas. By taking an online defensive driving course, drivers are given the flexibility of starting and stopping as needed. Drivers do not have to sit in a classroom setting for 6 straight hours. The online course can be completed anywhere you have an internet connection on devices such as your phone, tablet or computer.
